Hybrid Cylinders at GAA Technical Forum, Charlotte North Carolina

Hybrid Cylinders gave a presentation at the Gravure Association of the Americas Technical Forum in Charlotte, North Carolina recently to update the GAA and its attendees on the progress of our  technology and how its adoption can dramatically reduce lead time to press in addition to reducing cost.

Day One of the Technical Forum focused on Pre-Press, Cylinders & Engraving and saw Steve Smiley of SmileyColor & Associates, Mark Geeves of Color Logic, Kent Seibel from Ohio Gravure Technologies, Dan Comerford for WRE/Colortech, Michael Honeycutt for CCL and Todd Luman for Interprint all give engaging presentations along the central theme of the gravure industry needing to continually improve and examples of best practice plus any new developments within the industry which then set up the scene perfectly for Hybrid Cylinders to discuss how our innovative cylinder technology can reduce cylinder costs and time to press.

In delivering a size variable gravure printing cylinder that can be re-sized in minutes the Hybrid technology has been specifically engineered to work seamlessly within the existing cylinder preparation processes and technologies adopted throughout the industry and crucially without any added cost or steps.  Furthermore, the performance of a Hybrid cylinder through those standard gravure processes of copper, engraving and chrome is like for like when compared with traditional steel cylinders and crucially, upon each re-sizing of the Hybrid (with a lathe) the cylinder can be re-processed through the same standard gravure processes as required.

With the Hybrid cylinders offering 100mm of size variation on circumference many different sized cylinders can be achieved with ease and with each size change saving both the time and cost of new steel, the more size changes that are achieved by the printer/engraver, the greater the pre-press cost savings. Further cost savings are also achieved when the base cylinder for the Hybrid is a redundant and drawn from existing printer/engraver redundant stocks.

The Hybrid Cylinder manufacturing facility is now online we are currently focusing on expanding the product range ahead of launch at the end of 2015.
